I been reading a bunch of stuff on here about the Edge evo and I want to order one, but I've read that the mounting pod for them is black and I'm wondering if I can get paint from the dealer that will match the grey metalic color of the dash that the pod sits on. I just think it would look nice if it matched that part of the dash. Has anyone done this?
many have painted the pods with great success. It just depends on how you prepare it and if you take your time.
You should be able to get a Duplicolor paint or 1 of a bunch of different companies that make interior paint, to match pretty stinking close.
First, I would take the pod to the laundry tub and wash it with dish soap like Dawn. Rinse very well, and dry. This will get all of the release agent the manufacturer puts on the molds so the pods pop off easier during manufacturing. There are interior primer paints, but I have stopped using them for they dont seem to make a big difference. Now, take your time and slowly apply thin coats of paint till you are satisfied with the results. Let it dry and rock on!
Paint Would Be Nice, But To Tell You The Truth, Everyone That Sees My Pod (black) Still Thinks It Is Stock. There Are Other Black Features On The Dash. I Like It Black. Imo
The one on our site, I dont know if you saw our Edge evolution page, but it is a painted pod also. Looks pretty good if you ask me. I can send you a High resolution file of that picture if you would like. Shoot me an email. Edge sends us discs with all product photos on it. They are so freaking huge you could read a tattoo on a nats but if it was in the picture lol.
I just put together a little page with the steps we take when doing this, and it has the high resolution pictures from Edge. It may load slow because of the high resolution. I cropped out a small section of the pic cause they are so huge. Hope this helps.
We have always used interior paint...the old stuff you would have to repaint every few years, but it seems to be holding up better lately. The evolution pod is so easy to remove it could be repainted easily.
The Unit comes with Velcro, we have had customers use double sided tape. It is very easy to instal and remove. It only plugs into the OBDII port under the dash.
i wiped my mounting pod Acetone(quickly) let it dry. Stay AWAY from the Ford Graphite Factory Spray(its gray @ 13$$a can). Use Krylon Graphite it is real close and to make it closer drift spray some flat black over it. Lynn
