Hi folks. First timer here and I sure could use some help with the "thump" I'm getting in the rear drive shaft in my 2000 X. It happens when I come to a complete stop and the rear end "settles". I get a pronounced "thump" in the rear. If I put the truck in neutral while rolling and then stop it makes no sound at all....so I'm convinced it's in the drive-line. I have the 2-piece drive shaft that is basically on pieced sleeved inside the other and there's a rubber boot covering the intersection. There is some "play" in the booted section that the dealer says is normal, but I suspect that's where the thump is coming from. Anyone ever dealt with this? Thanks in advance for any feedback!
Try coming to a slow gradual stop in gear (versus your everyday traffic-light-style of stop) and see if you hear it. Your splined shaft inside the driveshaft (there's usually a rubber boot around it) may need some grease. They're known to have been sparsely greased by FOMOCO.
Yeah, the Ford tech took care of that exact thump on my 2000 for no charge when I took it in to get the fluids replaced after purchasing it. That was cool.

Sorry about not being clear there. This quote below sounds like exactly what he said to me.
