cam interchange question

cam interchange question

was wondering if the overhead cam from a 1991 dual plug head fit on a 1988 2.3 non dual plug head,,these motors are both from mustangs 2.3s,,heard these cams had a higher lift? more torque? thanks

I think that late model dual plug head has a roller cam in it, but it may be the modular one (slip on cam lobs).

Not for sure on the lift and duration but OldRob at www.powerbyace.com may have those facts on hand for you.

...also, mark the followers to each cam as you want to keep them in the same locations too as they break in together.

thanks Jamnjm for the info,the motor just came in the local junk yard this weekend if its still there by next weekend i'll pull the cam off with the followers

Ranger cams are all rollers from late 88 up. All EFI 2.3/2.5L cams are interchangeable. All followers are interchangeable thru 1994. They changed the followers in 95 to fit the narrower valve stems. Followers after 95 will not fit the earlier 2.3 engine. You can mix the followers on a roller camshaft, but not on a slider follower. I have a roller and followers for sale in classifieds. jim d
