I have a 97 F150 and the Brake light fuse keeps blowing and then the ABS light starts flashing. How does one retreive the ABS codes as the OBDSII system is not registering any.
Had recall done about a month ago. Truck ran and opreated great up untill now. Truck has 226000 km and cruise was used extensively whiole obtaining current milage on truck. I tried to get informa1tion from Ford regarding recall at time when I took it in for the work but they weren't very helpfull. As best as I can tell the fix amouts to a 2 amp fuse placed in the line to the switch on the mater cylinder which is sill intact. Can't seem to access the threads that you mentioned in your reply, any tips on how this is done ( kinda computer illiterate) thanks for your input
That takes the easy and most common solution off the table. What's left is the hard stuff, a short circuit in the brake light circuit.
This has the potential to be a real PITA to find. You'll need a schematic and a meter and start troubleshooting the wiring.
The fault could be anywhere from the BOO switch, to the column (MFS), to the rear corners or the HMSL, the shift interlock (if auto), or any one of the electronic modules that uses the brake light signal as an input.
If you're not comfortable tracing a short circuit, you should probably refer this job to a technician.
