I think whoever suggested the Mercedes has a great thought, one of the best diesel manufacturers in the world!
If you're doing this for mileage, you probably need to drive it for 1,000,000 miles to make it pay off. If you're doing it for fun or because it would be cool and different... go get 'em!!!
I forgot one. The Isuzu 4 banger in their cab overs. Electronic engines need not apply. Keeping it simple is my #1 priority. I figure/hope for close to 40 mpg and the option of running biodiesel.
i have been thinking about this too. I have 94/2000 ranger i drag race and if i had the means to do it i want to swap the new 4.5 power stroke. The LCF ford (fords new cab over truck) has a 4.5 v6 diesel and i beleive the same 5 speed auto thats behind the big power stroke. Its rated a 200hp and about 350 lbs of torque. If i can find on wrecked for a reasonable price i would do it. But just give you another option.
