I have had brake problems with my truck since I bought it, four years ago now (wow I've had that thing for while ). I change the master cylinder two years ago, and the problems subsided for a good while. But slowly, it has greatly degraded in performance. It is so bad, that I have to put the pedal to the floor and it still takes about 30-40' to stop from 30mph. They won't even lock
I tried bleeding the brakes early, and that didn't help. I pulled the master cylinder cover off, and hit the brakes, and the front section spit fluid every time I hit the pedal. Any ideas why?
By the way, I do know my brake booster is going out .
lol...ain't that the truth. Brake fluid breaks down over time as condensation takes over. If your pads and shoes are ok, then it could be stuck calipers or wheel cylinders, proportion valve, master cylinder, or damaged lines. Try rolling the truck with the engine off and apply the brakes. Is there any difference? brake booster only helps with the engine running.
sounds like the master cylinder is bad to me, classic signs there. Get a new unit instead of a reman one, thats helped me in the past. Seems like the reman units dont last very long. And yes, it does spray fluid from the front resovoir, mine does that too.
