I was looking for a little help my son has a 65 F100 300 6 with a 1 bbl carb it has just started leaking fuel eveything looks good around the carb fuel lines is dry the top is tight. Is it possible to have a sticking float? The carb is a little wet but nothing major. The worst of it is when its in the garge it smells like gas bad. So its going outside until we get this fixed I don't want to blow up the garage when I hit the opener. If this has to be kitted where can I find a kit. Thanks Craig
Try your local NAPA or CarQuest store for a kit. They can still get them. It wouldn't hurt to do an overhaul on the carb. Is it leaking into the carb throat, or around the lower half? Take your hands and try to move the carb back and forth. If it has any movement, the carb base to the body is loose. THis is a common problem with that carb.
I found 2 things on the gas smell. My carb's float did stick but usually only was a problem when idling. Just took the top off and cleaned it out. The other is the gas cap. It needs to be pretty new with a soft seal in it. try those, it sure took away the smell on mine.
The Carb is tight and it looks to be leaking on the outside this truck has been sitting for a while now it is a daily driver. i'm having a problem pin pionting the leak I have not found any gasoline in the oil so I'm thinking its somewhere on the outside. After it sits there is a small puddle on the floor. It's probally just as easy to go ahead and kit it what kind of job is this.??
Three thoughts from experience. #1 check the seal on the gas filter. If it has been checked recently and not screwed on correctly it will leak as the pressure increases and since there is still pressure after it is turned off it will continue to leak. #2 The outlet tube attached to the fuel pump sometimes comes loose and leaks fuel intermittently (or at least until it falls off and gas goes all over the driveway in my case). #3 if thee is a hard line going all the way from the fuel pump to the carb the threaded piece into the carb wears out and cant be tightened enough to stop a leak, or at least not for long. Teflon tape or JB weld in my case took care of that problem.
BTW if you have deiseling issues when you turn the truck off or boiling over when turning it off switch to an electric fuel pump. It solved a multitude of problems with my truck which has the same engine as yours.
Ok I just bought a 63 with possibly the same problem.
Mine was leaking out the side(drivers side).
There is a lever that sits up against the drivers side of the carb.
It goes into a plate with 4 screws(apprx 1" square).
It leaked almost constantly, just a drip. However when you push the gas pedal, it gushed out.
YOu have to disconnect the lever, and then take the 1" plate off and inside there is a diaphragm with "a spring" don't let the spring get away.
That diaphragm will rot if it sits a while, and leaks gas.
Replace it and you are home free. Cost me apprx. $5 (and about an hour of looking for that !@#$%^&* spring) otherwise it is probably a 10 minute job tops.
NAPA(can we say where we got the parts?) had 2, neither of which were the right one for my '63, but I slightly modified one, and it worked fine.
Hope that helps, It has pretty much exhausted my storehouse of old truck knowledge.

Ok I move slow but here's the update turns out I had a small fuel line leak at the carb I kitted it anyway and what a difference. She runs good and no more leaks. Thanks for the help. Oh by the way does anybody happen to have a 65 240 1bbl ford carb they want to get rid of I could use one?
If you dont mind the shipping, I have an Autolite 1 barrel that you can have. I have several and am going to change mine out to a Holly. PM me and I will let ya know what the shipping would be from Oregon, shouldnt be more than $100.00 or so (just kidding).
Does it have ford stamped on it? I'm trying to get away from the YF So I'm looking for the one with the ford logo right on the carb I'm a chosey beggar. 100 would that be hand delivered?
