I just purchased what is supposed to be a 1969 F100 Explorer. However the VIN is not matching with a 1969. Can anyone help me out here? Here are the particulars:
F10GKF73850
Color - 3
Trans - C
Axle - 08
DSO - 53
The door tag matches my title, but the production numbers don't go with a 1969 model truck. I think the last numbers for that year was 63999. The last digits on my VIN are 73850. Anyone know any different?
It almost looks like a 70 tag, but the serial number is a "G" for the number yours is. And that shows to be built in October of 69. Does your truck have a 302? Thats what it shows for the engine code on a 70, it doesn't have it at all on the 69. Do your door vin tag and your windshield tag match? Is it possible someone replaced a door? Is the factory engine tag still on the distributor, if so what does it say? Let us know more and we'll try and help.
Curtis360...windshield tag? The only place I've ever seen the VIN is on the frame. Yes there is a warranty information tag on the door that has the VIN on it, but I've never seen a windshield tag???
I do believe, indeed, that the truck has a 302/C4 combo. I was really interested in if someone could verify the production numbers issue. It has a 1971 grill also. I was not aware of a windshield tag either.
The 1970 Ford Truck Shop Manual says that the production numbers for August of 69 units G10,000 - G29,999 were 1969 model year trucks. Units G30,000( also in August of 69) - J89,999(Aug of 1970) were 1970 model year trucks. Since your truck unit number is F73850, it would make sense that that would likely coorespond with a 1969 model built before August of 69. I don't have a 1969 book to verify that in, but it would make logical sense that that VIN unit number is for a 1969 truck since it has the F prefix.
Thanks guys for your responses. Unless someone responds thathas a 1969 Manual, I might have to go to the library and see if the manuals there have production numbers....
I too have a "I think 69" F350 Vin # ending in F96852. The books say it does not exist. I posted this once before and another enthusiast had a similar number. Anybody shed light on this?
