Anyone out there swapped out an earlier 2 valve for a 05 3 valve ?
Melted something in#5 & #10 cyl on my very low mileage 00 ( Whipple SC ).
Could use some advice on what needs to be changed as I have a pretty good price on a "drop in" 05 engine
why would he post it in the 4.6/5.4 modular v8 forum if in his post he said that he melted something in #5 and #10 cyls. last time i checked, unless ford changed something, lol, 4.6 and 5.4 engines do not have 10 cylinders. lol....in my opinion, i would post it in the V10 forum. my $.02 worth....no disrespect though........

A few people have asked about this on here. I think its a lot more than just dropping it in, the tranny and computer are completely different for one(and thats a big one.) There a many other little differences that would drive you insane trying to get it all worked out. Maybe you can do a really strong rebuild on the v10 with low compression pistons and all that fun stuff.
edit: like the other guys said, you might have more luck in the v10 forum, they really know their stuff down there.

lol...ok V10 forum, whoops. when i read the post for some reason was thinking he was talking about a 5.4L, guess i shot right past the #10.
Get a 2v motor and save the grief, your Whipple SC won't fit
The 3v V10 has extensive electrical differences and unfortunately you just can't get the 05 and up front wiring and expect it to fit your 00 truck. Lots of integration between all the systems from the dash cluster to the ABS to the transmission. Your PCMs lower front firewall under the brake master cylinder, the 05 PCM is up in front of the passenger under the wiper cowling and they added a separate Injector computer and they all talk on a different interface scheme called CAN and the OBDII system is much more fully integrated..
Not an easy bolt in swap I can assure you! Lots of little problems like 3v uses Cylinder Head Temp (CHT) instead of water temp like your truck has.... there are half dozen subtle changes like that and most of them are in very different locations.
Sounds like you are real familiar with the insides of your engine bay...go find a 05 and up 3v V10 truck and take a LONG look under the hood and you will see what I mean
Mechanically , if you ignore all the electrical issues the swap is straight forward, I am pretty sure the engine mounts and back toward the rear all are universal for the PSD, 5.4L 6.8L options, even the trans issue is probably easy to adapt or even direct bolt in, might need different drive shafts
2v V10s show up on ebay fairly frequently for under $4000 all the time. This last week was a screaming deal I passed on, a fresh (20miles) crate long block complete with a buy it now price for $2945 or so.
freshen up the one you have. use forged pistons for a 5.4 "same part numbers" install a full set of plug inserts while you have the heads off from one of the two good companys like these "http://fulltorque.com/ and http://www.timesert.com/html/distributor.html so you don't have to worry about it later.
most likely as you say it's the back 2 sides you had a vac leak and leaned out the holes.
figure out how to jack the cab up and off as it will make the job much easier.i think it was flatrate tech that showed and told how to do it.
Thanks to all who have taken the time to respond. I will wait for a low mile wreck. My understanding is it is not worth it trying to tear it down in the truck. If I have to remove it I will just swap it out and then tear it down. Thanks again
