I just figured out why they don't make lifts for the 04 and up ranger 4x4: there are no front springs. Does anyone know what it's called? It looks like a shock but larger. Is it a strut? Why did Ford do this?
There are no "coil" springs, but there are "torsion bar" springs. And there are lift kits on the market, but they cost an arm & a leg, which is why there aren't too many people that buy them...
Thats why most of us just crank our torson bars to level our trucks, and call it a day. A leveled ranger can run up to a 33" tall tire, thats plenty big on a ranger. I run run a 265/75-16, thats about a 32", and it looks , and works great. You can get lifts from RCD, and Dixon Bros, but there like 3,000$. Cranking the bars work just fine, and let you run all the tire you need on a ranger.

You've mentioned this before, Wendell. I have a 04 FX4 that I want to lift and Im, ahem,.."mechanicley challenged" Where could I go to have this done? If I get it done will this change anything to possibly void my warrenty? Thanks!
It won't blow your warranty unless it directly screws something up. If your suspension has truly factory problems, they aren't going to fix it because they can get away with blaming it on you. And cranking the torsion bars has a reputation for ruining the ride.
The fact is a ranger 4x4 doesn't ride all that smooth anyway, I can't tell the difference myself. I got mine done at a local tire and allignment shop, call a round untill you find one that will do it, even some auto repair shops will do it as well. This is not new tech, chevy, and dodge uses torson bars as well, there's even a torson bar lift out for chevy now that consists of new t-bars, and torson keys. You will need a new front end allignment anyway, so a shop that can do both is your best bet. I took my truck to ford last month to have my allignment checked while the warrenty is still good, and they never even noticed the t-bars were cranked, or at least didn't mention it.
