roof rack

So I'm up on the running boards slapping the roof with the chamoix to get the water from the center parts and I notice that the factory roof rack sits right on the paint! I cant belive I didn't notice this before. I can just see it now...first it rubs throught the clear coat then the paint, followed by the rust. Next thing you know it looks like an 87 jeep cherokee with all the paint missing off the top. Guess what's comming off this weekend.

One of many just plain wrong and bizarre things that Ford ignored on Excursion.
I guess it should be in a FAQ or something: "Step One: Your new Excursion. Take of the crappy factory rack bars."

It's actually number 4 on the "top 5 must-do" list.

YEA. I learned that a few months ago on this site but there were already some marks on my 2004 roof. We need another "READ THIS FIRST" to warn all new guys to the Excursion page about this.

Removing the OEM crossbars is on the "top 5 must-do items" found at another Excursion forum.

Unhappy

Just flip up the locks and slide the cross bars back (or farward) past the tapered end mounts. They come right off.

Then buff out the scratches and hope there is still some paint on the roof.

Ford engineering.....

'Ya gotta wonder. Here's a guy that's trying to help everyone out by highlighting other simple Excursion "upgrades" that will decrease maintenance and add to the life of our trucks, and the darn post gets banned.

Mr. Moderator, can you please explain the logic behind this because I just don't understand?

I think it's fair to link to _content_ on another forum as a user (because it's the most helpful answer and it's not plagiarizing) but it's poor form to arbitrarily mention other forum sites. And I think it's fair for the admin/mod to delete or use asterisks to black out (what do they call it in the Government, redact?) inappropriate material.

If the moderator deleted the link to avoid visitors reading and learning of another Excursion forum, then, well, that's assuming visitors don't know how to Google "excursion forum" so I'd like to think there was another reason that caught the offending link and removed it as part of a broad policy even though this specific case seems inappropriate to the best interests of the forum participants.

All good points...and exactly the reason why a Moderator should explain his action. We're not kids. Interesting that there has been no response, to date, from the "Administration".

I think the link deletion problem might be an automatic setting in the forum. Maybe a list of URLs that get blocked. It looks like the mod for this forum hasn't posted for a couple of days and it's been a weekend.

Remember that most of us are nothing more than guests here, and since someone else is footing the bill, this online forum is in effect "their house" ... and most "houses" have their own rules. I don't allow profanity in mine. The 1st Amendment does not apply to places like this.

Granted, it does seem a little childish to auto-delete links to "unauthorized" websites, even if the poster's intent is merely to educate, but FTE is probably trying to keep their advertisers here happy by preventing users from jumping to other sites haphazardly. This website be called a "forum," but it is run by a business, and businesses must make a profit to stay afloat.

PS - I do not attempt to be politically correct because I am not a politician, but understanding the situation provides you with insight. Ya' don't have to like it, but you can work better within a system once you understand it.

C'mon...there are only so many sites out there. We all know who they are. In addition, you see many of the same sponsors on the other Boards. In my mind, we're one big happy family of diesel sniffers.

In any event, the owner(s) of this site are free to make their own rules, and I'm more than willing to offer a personal opinion.
