The 521 for our pulling truck is in the process of being put into the truck. Upright headers came today and need some adjusting, but the big purple monster is coming together. I will try to get Larry to take some pictures. Its usually the last thing we think of when doing these types of jobs, but I will try.
We got 20% more flow out of the EX514 heads, so we should get a little more out of it this year.
What type of flow numbers did you get, and what sized valves did you run in it. Just curious on the valve size because the TFS A460 heads seem to be really liking the 2.35" intake vs the 2.300, and that size is even flowing better than stepping clear up to 2.400. I am thinking when I step my engine to 572 of going with the 2.35" intake (staying with the 1.88" exhaust though) or the other choice is step up the C heads so was curious on yours.
Also which upright headers did you buy?
The following is relating to our iron EX-514 heads on our 521ci engine. THe engine is purple, but it does not come from the home of purple Fords.....that...is an inside fact to those who may know where purple painted Ford engines normally come from.
Is that any good? My baseline flow was this after another guy did the suposedly pro-port job (Notice the flow at mid lift compared to above):
Intakes;
.100=73, .200=133.5, .300=187.3, .400=245.5, .500=305.3, .600=352.8, .700=382, .750=391.3, .800=395.8 cfm.
Ummm, I am not trying to be mean in anyway, but you have a problem with your valve job I would think, not sure what rpm's your planning on running or what cam you have but those heads shouldn't fall off at .700 lift they should still be climbing at .800 I am guessing the margins are not hte right width or the angles are too steep, but other than that they look pretty good. I know charlie evans has posted some with over 445cfm on the intake at .800 lift but that is Charlie after all, and he is a magician with those things.
But the guy that did the "pro-port job" I think the only thing I would ever send his way was my competition, those numbers are worse than the heads came out of the box with. Nice improvement.
Just so you know, the suposed Pro port job was done by Mark McKeown of MMEracing.com. He created an abortion. Charlie did the porting this past spring, and the upper set of numbers is AFTER Charlie Evans of B.F. Evans racing worked over the heads extensively. If your looking for max flow numbers and forget the awesome work he did on the mid lift numbers...you would be missing the point. The cam is a 284/296 duration 0.832 lift with a 113 lobe sep. The engine will make max power at near 7600-7800 RPM's but will rev to 8500+ on the track.
Mark must have really butchered the heck out of them cause uncle charlie is amazing what he can get out of a set of A460 style heads, but even someone that good can only do so much with a hack job, yep he did a good job of recovery on them then. I wasn't forgetting the job on the mid lift I was just noticing the drop after the .700 lift which is unusual on this style of cyl head which according to Charlie and others (plus my own experience with it) usually has to do with the valve angles, and margins, or a hack job on the short turn but if the short turn was hacked up before Charlie got it, expecially on Iron heads there isn't much that can be done. I wasn't trying to insult you or the Job that was done just an observation.
That cam looks familar like the one that Lem had in a 562cid engine last year that made around 985hp, I think your gonna like it.
Ok, we are trying to take a few pics this time. In addition this year we are putting in Complete Hydraulic steering, and all new wiring (thank god) plus upright headers.
looking good, couple questions. whos headers are those. whats the primary size? pictures can be decieving but they look pretty small in the pics for a 521. And if you will take a suggestion I would lengthen that collector to atleast a 12" preferably a 14" you will like it better. (you can just weld a 4" dia extension straight on it.
Edit, hey how about some pics of the entire truck went and looked but didn't see any come on we wanna see what she is lookin like. And you do know that you are expected to post atleast 3 videos of your truck in action during the coarse of the year, right?

The primaries are 2 1/4 I think is what Larry said. He just finished painting them so I didnt get a close look. That one is just held on by 2 bolts for now. We had talked about lengthening them. The are by http://www.schoenfeldheaders.com/
We have a set of "Headers by Ed" but they are only 2 1/8. New Ed headers are very expensive. Maybe next year. This was a cheap fix to a set of fenderwell headers that have seen better days. They are actually chevy 454 headers that have been split at the flanges and re angled. They dont make them for A460 style heads. lol one set leans out a bit lol.
ah yes forgot the ex514 kept the ford cyl spacing on the exhaust instead of making them at the chev spacing like TFS went to on the later model A460s.
2-1/4" should be big enough, the picture just makes them look smaller than that for some reason.
larger than 2 1/4" would be better, but Lem feels 2.25" is good enough for now. I may hand build a set of 2.5" primary headers...for my application zoomies are just about as well. I dont care about low end or mid range, we start out roll 10 feet or so and run straight to 8 grand and hold her there until the fat lady sings. its 18-22 seconds of 8 grand. Makes an easy to tune package...lol....WOT is all we care about really.
