The valves are not really "adjustable". If the valvetrain is worn beyond limits replacement parts are required and the valves "adjusted" if needed by shims under the pedestals. When valvetrain parts have worn thru the surface hardening rapid wear rates are experienced, therefore the parts must be replaced.

i am not sure what problems you are having.they are not adjustabe..can be converted with machine work.common wear items are cam, lifters,pushrods, rocker arms, and most often ,valves and seats

Only other issue is if you rebuilt the engine, and you had the heads and block milled then you need to add a corrosponding amount of shims under the pedestals to make up the difference or a corrospondingly shorter pushrod. As others stated basically that engine in stock from doesn't have adjustable valve train.
