extang rt problems

Just got the Extang RT for the Mark LT. I was under the impression that the low profile without need of the bed rails meant that the bed rails were allowed to befree with this install. I was wrong apparently they still need 3/4 in space on the bed rails and the huge useless chrome rails that come with the MarkLT are definately in the way. Spoke to extang and they couldnt recommend anything. I would like to figure out a way to install the thing and get it done with already. Is there a way to lift up or shift over the chrome rails if not how are they removed? I was also missing some parts when the extang came in so far I am unhappy with the purchase.

I would send it back and do more research before your next purchase. Maybe go to a truck cap/tonneau cover dealer/installer to see what your options are.

I have an extang RT and I know what you are talking about. I do not have the bed rails, but the lip of the extang rails cover my steak pockets by about a 1/4" to 1/2". I would return it and look for something else, unless you can get the rails off.

I think any cover you go with you will need to remove those rails.

You may want to look at the ACCESS Lorado which is made for our trucks with bed rails.

This is Kellie from ShurCo, the manufacturer of the Truxedo covers. We have two covers that would work great with your truck. The Lo Profile and the Original Truxedo both mount to the inside lip of the truck and do not interfere with the bed rails.

Took the advice and got the truxedo lo profile. WORKS FANTASTIC!!! Fairly easy once one side rail was mounted. Water Tights and works great. I feel very safe leaving equipment under it. If someone were to rip into it they would have a hard time lugging a chop saw up and over it, drills, nail guns and other items in carrying cases are another issue but am not concerned it only stays overnight in a gaurd and gated community. My mileage actually increases 2 mpg on the highway!!!!!! Didnt realize it made that much of a difference. It also takes up very little space when rolledup which helps a lot with a 5.5 ft bed. I have an ARE hard lift tonneau on the other truck and am considering selling it and purchasing another truxedo. The hard caps look great but are not functional.
