Question Ford 557 Stroker Kit

Hello, with my Scat 557 stroker assembly kit that i have purchased for my 460ci engine i have read in one or two forums that i will have to have machine work done to my Block, my 460 is a early 1980's motor, Block casting D9TE. could some-one enlighten me on to what machine work is required so that i am aware of the work needed, Hello Monsterbaby , Thanks again. Jamie- AUSTRALIA.

You will need to have the block bored for the pistons you have with your kit. Those pistons should be .080 over stock so the final bore will need to be 4.440. That's the only actual machine work necessary for the kit. Then of course there's square decking and you'll probably want to have a little shaved off the deck for better quench but that's not a necessity in terms of making the rotating assembly work in that block.

Ivan is correct on the machine work required but I would add, have it line honed also your main bearings will like you a lot better, and live longer. And before you have it bored have it sonic checked 460 blocks generally have one cyl that will be a little on the thin side in comparisson to the rest on a non thrust wall, if it won't end up atleast .095 thick you have 2 choices, one you could have your machine shop slightly offset the bore or you could sleeve that one cyl. But that is only a concern if it comes out that one will be thinner than .095 on a non thrust wall after boring it to 4.440

Thanks Guys, i plan to only go 40 or 60 thou over with the block, as 460ci blocks are hard to come by down here in Australia and very expensive. could you's tell me what size my 460ci would be with a 40 or 60 thou bore size with the 557ci stroker kit, Thanks again- Jamie, Australia.

since you said it was a 557 kit, I assume 4.5" stroke .040 would net you a 547, and .060 would be 552. curious though you said you had a 557 stroker kit, most stroker kits I have seen come with pistons already, do you mean you just bought the crank, or crank and rods?

Hello Monsterbaby, i know it might sound strange- but for now i have only purchased the Crankshaft and conrods, as i knew i would not want to take the Bore out to 080, due to possible problems such as having the block sleeved, i think i will take the bore out to 060 thou. so i will have a 552 cubic inch motor, i still might get the 080 pistons - i will make a few phone calls to importers to find out what they charge for a bare 460ci block, Thanks agin, Jamie , Australia.
