My grille has some surface scratches, but no dings or dents. I'd like to clean it up...can I buff the scratches out or will the anodized coating prevent me from doing that? Also, what is an anodized coating?

The anodizing is like chrome(in a way). It is there to protect the bare aluminum. Keeps it shiny and from oxidizing. Over time the coating gets hazy and cracks. The only way is to polish it off and then buff the aluminum. You can get it recoated. Some guys just leave it bare and keep after it with polish and wax.
The drip rail moldings are stainless steel and only takes polish to make it shine again. Stainless does not need the protection like aluminum, so it's bare metal.
