Was looking to purchase a newer truck to pull a gooseneck trailer. In some of my research I was going to purchase a F250 SD. but found that it may not have enough gvwr for the trailer I am going to need. Went onto the Ford web site and found the F350 4x4 Crewcab with a 6.0 PS to have a pulling capacity of 18,100 (for a 5th wheel) with a axle ratio of 4.30. In the notes it also stated with the Boss Package. Not sure what the boss package is? If anybody can tell me some more info that would be great. Haven't been to the dealer yet about this question, thought I would ask you guys. Thank Aaron.
I believe the TowBoss package itself is just the 4.30 limited slip axle and a bumped-up GCWR to 26k lbs. But I believe if you get the TowBoss feature you also have to get the TowCommand feature as well. Which is the trailer brake controller and TT mirrors.
Yes i agree. I just purchased a 2006 F350 Crew Cab 4X4 Diesel Dually. These are two separate items. The Tow Command is the integrated trailer brake controller while the Tow Boss is the 4.3 Posi Rear End. I made sure my SD was equipped with both.
they are correct. and the 4:30 dont turn that many rpms on the interstate do to the tall over drive. Also a cool note on the 4:30 ( at least the ones i test drove) is if you floor it from a red light, the leave 4 dark gray striper in 1st, then a pause for the shift 2nd, pause for shift 3ed.... etc. Not quite spinning the tires, just enought to leave a faint mark... and on some street it squeels lol... i get 4:30's just for that!
On a side note, with going with a truck that big, i would get ever option related to towing the big loads. when you go to sale or trade people will be looking for that.
There is a GMC 3500 in town for sale, crew cab, 4x4 dually, tow package, 5th wheel etc. with 350ci motor. its like what is up with that, sorta like the new 3500 mega cab dually rams with a hemi.
