Hi, I have a 2002 Ranger with the 2.3 5 speed which i bought new. I'm having a vibration problem when driving at 70 miles per hour only. I first noticed that the passenger side bucket seat would vibrate on the upper portion. I have new front brakes and ball joints 4 new tires as well. When driving at this speed it also feels to be coming from the passenger side rear or side. I had all 4 tires balanced but it's still the same. There is no humming sound so i assume it's not a bearing. There is no vibration in the steering wheel or gas pedal either. This vibration is at approx. 2500 rpm's but in the other gears it is not felt.
Chances are it's a tire out of balance. It's still possible after you get new tires and have had them balanced. I've got 4 brand new ones on mine and still get a slight vibration at 65.
Do you still have the vibration in 4th gear running 70 MPH?
I tried shifting to neutral at 70 miles per hour and the shudder remains. There's no vibration in the steering wheel at all. Yet, the passenger seat shakes and a shudder is felt from the back. Does this eliminate the driveshaft and u joint?
Did the problem begin right after the new tires were installed? Have you carefully inspected the rims to see if one is bent? Spin balancing might hide such a problem on the machine, but not on the vehicle. Been there, done that.
I checked the seat and it's bolted in good. It's only the top part of the seat that shutters. I checked the tires and couldn't find and bent rims or visual damage to any tire. I'm thinking of re-balancing and rotating again. I don't know what else to look at.
