Hi all I'm new to this forum. I have a question on drive shaft lenght. I'm converting my 70 f100 from a manual trans. to an auto c6 trans. I'm going to have the manual drive line shortened. I was wandering if there is any who knows the lenght or how much I need to have my driveline cut down for it to work. Thanks for any info....Tony
I can't tell you the exact length without seeing your setup, but I can tell you that the appropriate length will be when the the part of the shaft that goes on the transmission splines is halfway in the transmission and half of it is out where you can see it. Make sure that when you measure for this that the truck is not jacked up and is not loaded. You need approximately 3" Sticking out of the tailstock on the transmission. This will allow for the drive shaft to slide on in when the truck is under a load. Make sure for the shaft not to be to long, because it could do some serious damage to the transmission.
Let me know if you have any questions. I have had to cut drive shafts to fit numerous times.
Not sure if it's possible - sounds to me like it should work out o.k. - but couldn't you just take the drive shafts and carrier bearring from a junked truck with A/T and slap it right in without any modifications?
