I just put a 770 avenger on my 460 engine. The carb # is 90770 74 primary and 99 secondary. My engine is stock except for duel exhaust. I live in Idaho and drive between 4500' and 6000'. My question is do I have to rejet the carb and how hard is it to do? The truck runs good, a little bog right at first. I changed the discharge from the .035 to .028 didn't really notice a big difference so I changed it back. It's got the black spring in the secondary. My truck is a 83 f250 and weights about 5800lbs. My timing is set at 15 . Any thoughts on getting things set up right are appreciated.
Hello Daverod, i run a 670cfm Holley street avenger on my stock 460ci, along with the Edelbrock performer RPM manifold and it has never once bogged down or played up, my 460ci is in a 4 speed sedan, when i went to buy the new carb i wanted a 750cfm but was explained that all the stock 460ci motors came out with 600cfm Holley's as Ford knew what carb was best for the 460ci, you can go buy the 670cfm jets and put them in your 770cfm, you will find you will get better fuel economy. and your engine will still get the advantage of the extra air flow with the 770cfm....hope this helps. Jamie- AUSTRALIA.
According to Holley, you need to reduce the jets one number for each 2000 foot in altitude over sea level, as well as changing the power valve activation point. It needs to be lowered 1.5-2 inches of hg.(ie from a 7.5 to a 5.5) for each 3000 feet above sea level. So it looks like you should reduce your jets to 72 primary and 97 secondary, as well as the change to the power valve. BTW if the smaller pump shooter did not make the bog worse I would put it back in, it sounds like you are using more fuel than needed.
The vaccum is hooked up right. I'm not sure what the proper adjustment for the arm should be? Does anybody know what jets are in a 670 ? avenger? I was thinking I might put those jets in. thanks daverod

Hello daverod, sorry but i do not know the part number for my 670cfm jets, i think it would be best for you to go to your local carb-performance shop , you should be able to purchase the jets over the counter, but to be on the safe side take your 770cfm jets or carb with you to make sure they fit, Cheers Jamie.
