Hello folks. I have a 1993 F-150 4x4 extended cab with a 5.0l engine. A couple of days ago, I noticed that the ABS light on by instrument panel was flashing. I checked and the fuse was burnt for the brake lights, cruise and something else. I replaced the fuse, still no brake lights and the fuse burnt out again after about 2 minutes. I know I probably have a short somewhere. Anybody that can give me some insight as to where to start, it would be appreciated.
usually means that a positive wire is shorting/grounding. Check the back tail light wiring harness on each side and visual inspect. The cruise control, does that go on the same fuse circuit? would have to check my truck out side to see. I just pulled out my ABS control box behing the glove box thinking it was my engine computer.....so now I know what and where that is, if it helps....good luck
I had the same problem, turned out to be a short in the cruise control circuit. dealer had done the recall, then itkinda crapped itself. dealership replaced the cruise stop switch on the master cylinder and the servo controller. works fine now
I also had the same problem.. but when I tried to "reset" the light at an intersection by turning off the motor and trying to restart, I realized then that when the brake lights have a short and the ABS is flashing, my truck won't come out of park.. 96 F350. So I had to get it towed.
Anyway, mine was some really poor wiriing for a shell that was done by the previous owner.. Once I cleaned that up and replaced the fuse, it was fine...
if you put the key in the second position i think, right before run, you can shift to neutral and start and drive the truck, it's in the owner's manual
I had the same problem in my 89. It turned out to be the turn signal switch behind the wheel. The brake light circuit runs up the column to it. You can take the steering wheel off and test the switch. I found out mine was bad and replaced it in 10 min.
Do me and yourself a favor. Unplug the wire going to one of the outer lines on the master cylinder. Not the three wire plug on the bottom of the reservoir, but the other one. Then replace the fuse, and get it to the dealer quickly before your truck burns to the ground!
