FYI, the screwdriver was used as a pointing device, not to represent what was actually in the resevoir. I did, however, have to look a good way down to see any oil in it.

Tenn01PSD350, expand a little further becuase I haven't the slightest clue as to where the HPOP or it's resevoir is.

Cookie88, thanks, I'll check that out in the morning.

The reservoir you checked is the high pressure oil pump (HPOP) reservoir. The pump itself is directly beneath it on the back side, under the fuel filter bowl. The HPOP supply lines are the two big lines coming off the drivers side of the pump and traveling back to the oil galleys in each head.

Hey Toreador, I am pretty much learning with you. I just looked at the thread again and concluded that if that HPOP reservoir is supposed to be full, and it is not, then I would top it off with fresh oil then start and drive it immediately to see if this clears up the problem, even if only temporarily.

Then I would reevaluate before I tore into anything or replaced anything else. Just an idea.

Talking My truck is back!

Well boys, I install my new ICP sensor yesterday and my truck is back!

I drove it stock to make sure it actually solved the problem. After the first test drive, things went well so I tuned my truck back to the 80hp setting. This was the ultimate test because this aggrivates the problem more than anything. I took it out on the freeway, mashed it, and found myself with a BSEG. My truck lept to life, pressed me back into my seat, and gave me quite a scare.

The new sensor seem is alot different from the old one. Doesn't matter to me it fixed my problem and now I'm happy again.

The new sensor is on the left, the old one is on the right.

Excellent news. I'm happy it was a relatively inexpensive fix. Still wondering about that HPOP static oil level though. I was going to check mine sometime just for giggles, but now I will simply leave it alone unless need arises.

It may have been the ICP sensor, but the HPOP resevoir fixed itself. How? I don't know, but I'm not asking questions.

Any little bit of carbon, trash, or debris could have been stuck in the checkvalve seat and cleared itself. Probably nothing to worry about at this point.

Maybe, maybe not....

I'm a little nervous because I started my truck up after running a few errands and that same ticking sound came back! It may have been a fluke, but MAN was I pissed! I checked the sensor itself and didn't see any oil leaking out anywhere. Is there some kind of additive I can add to the oil to clean things out? Maybe some Berryman's B12 Chemtool? Anything! It's already starting to sound like it did before I replaced the sensor, but I'm seriously hoping that this is a fluke. But if it's not, any recommendations?

Suppose for a minute that he was not seeing an indication problem but an actual pressure variance. That woul dput you back to this being the next step in the process: http://cw-diesel.com/LuxSite/IPRInfo.htm
