GUYS...WATCH YOUR E-MAILS!!!

Sorry Ratsmoker about the caps in the subject, but everyone needs to see this. Someone is using our e-mail address to send out viruses to our computers. It looks like it's something about our trucks, but it's not. I don't remember what the first one was called, but the 2nd one, the one that I just deleted...was entitled "cobrajet engine". It was from "info". It looks like someone trying to get help, but it's not. Just thought I'd let you guys know.

Ken

PS--Ratsmoker--You may want to let Ken Payne see this.

Thanks a lot for the warning Ken. I'll keep an eye out. No prob with the caps. It was worth a yell. As long as the whole message isn't one big shout its no problem.

GUYS...WATCH YOUR E-MAILS!!!

The email headers are forged. Basically, if "Bob's" computer is infected with one of the latest viruses and he has "Stanley's" email address in his address book, the virus sends an email to everyone in Bob's address book using Stanley's (or another user in his address book) reply-to address. This makes it difficult for people to track the real source. Any good email software package will allow you to view the email headers so you can view the real source of the email.

Any virus infected email you get with any official ford-trucks.com email address is NOT from us but from someone else's system forging our reply-to address. Given the number of people that have FTE in their address books I wouldn't be surprised if emails use us as a forged reply-to.

For the record, due to safe practices neither FTE's nor my personal computers have ever been infected. I had a work computer infected in 1991 and since have learned to be careful. Here's what I do:

1. NEVER, EVER open an executable file, regardless of who sends it to you.
2. Use anti-virus software and update it weekly.
3. Don't use Microsoft products for email. Their software is EXTREMELY virus prone. I use Eudora (www.eudora.com).
4. Turn off macro/scripting support in Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, etc.
5. Perform a weekly (or better yet, daily) virus scan on your hard-drive.
6. If you work in a network environment, be careful who you allow to have write access to your computer.
