When i get my engine rebuilt at the shop im guessing it'll take a month or month and 1/2. Well im planning to take or tow my truck home when the engine is out and work on the inner fenders and all. Like sand it down and such and paint it. I'm basiclly asking you all if you ahve any experience with this? what color? Black? Cus my truck is whimbelton white so i dont think an engine compartment would stay too clean white. ...That makes me think about my tranny... i hope its ok and doesnt need replacing............thanks
The inner fenders are supposed to be gloss black. Same with the radiator core support. The firewall and the under the hood surfaces are the same color as the outside of the body.
Pulling the engine is much easier if you disassemble the front clip first. Take the core support and fenders off completely. Then they are very easy to clean up and paint a nice semigloss black color. Mine is disassembled right now, and I'm thinking of having the core support and inner fenders powdercoated instead of painted, but I haven't priced it out yet.
Just a tip. Oven cleaner works amazingly to take off the old paint and grime. Keep ing mind that it will remove anything so watch where you put it. Also make sure you rinse it completely off and then rinse it two more times. I didn't get a good rinse and painted it and then washed all the paint off the next day. I used flat black VHT. I wish I would have spent more time under the hood detailing stuff.
