i disconnected my exhaust right where the down pipe ends. the throttle seems to respond faster. my question is would this hurt anything? im worried because the exhaust gasses are being let out right under the cab. i feel like my fuel milage is being hurt, but maybe its because my foot is buried to the ground. man i love the sound. also. would a 4in down pipe make the sound even better?

I would go with a 4" down pipe, and a 4 or 5" straight pipe exhaust. Don't risk disconnecting the exhaust, could easily get into the cab.

Yeah, you're as good as into a new exhaust now. I did the same thing and thought the exhaust sounded cool. Drove it that way for about three weeks. That's when my cannon came in and went on. Couldn't put that old system back on now could I? No comparison in accelleration not to mention the new sound is killer.
i started it up once with just my 4" downpipe, and that is what triggered me to buy a straight 4" piece of pipe to replace my MBRP muffler. never going back to a muffled exhaust!
so running it like this should be ok? i just came home from a 30 mile drive and it seems like im loosing mpg. should i get a 4in down pipe and then slowly build up to 5in canon? or save up for the whole 5in canon?
That's entirely up to you. Some folks just get a muffler delete pipe and go with the stock system. I would not recommend getting just a downpipe and saving up as the DP would be too expensive by itself, then you face the same thing with the rest. If you want larger, start saving and get the whole thing in one fell swoop. Best way to go. If it's gonna be a while, I'd straight pipe it.
I don't think you're gonna kill yourself on fumes driving it like it is if you're careful, but after a while it becomes cheesy IMO.
Sure, I did. Just remember that your exhaust is dumping out under the cab. It's not gonna fall off or anything like that. I'm sure there are some folks on this forum who won't approve but I don't believe you'll hurt anything. Like I said though, gets cheesy. Also, check local laws, don't want a ticket for muffler violation or some other exhaust or sound ordinance violation.
This may or may not be an issue( mainly because I can't remember where my stock downpipe ended) but watch out for the extra heat on your tranny and tranny lines. No need to weaken the already weakest link.
As for doing a little at a time\and building up tp the 5"... save your $$ up and do it all at the same time you'll be glad you did.
My 2 cents
I was told this along time ago when I first started driving truck, I dont know if this is urban legend of not...a gasser lets out carbon monoxide, (monoxide posioning) a diesel lets out carbon dioxide, When we breath and take in oxygen our bodies let out carbon dioxide, ethier is not good to breath, but that coarbon dioxide is not that bad to us , the refersal of plants, they take in corbon dioxide and let out oxygen,
So again my 2 cents is that I would'nt worry about the fumes but more on how the valves cool, hot valves then you turn off engine and the cool air rushes in prematurly cooling them, insted of the air rushing into the open exhaust and getting warmed by the travel though a hot pipe. I know we had this possible problem on our motorcycles when the exhaust gasket would leak, some thing about crystalizing valves..the surrounding area does not cool evenly..
Like I said just my 2 cents..maybe someone can help me here with this if need be..
Remember, too much of anything is considered poisoning. I forgot to put that in my post before. I would not drive around with a cut-out right under the cab.
how hard is it to buy some universal hangers and run some flex pipe out the side of the truck. just until you get the $ saved for your whole system. no worries with gasses entering your cab. me personally i dont care about the gasses but its my passengers that i take into consideration.
