I'm looking for one for my 95 F-250.
I'm thinking the
Valley Industries V82460 for ~$180
or
Draw-Tite 41904 for ~$260
Both have the same weight ratings so I'm just wondering what would be the reason for the ~45% higher price on the Draw-Tite?
Looking at the directions for both, I don't see much of a difference, they attach the same way and look to have the same overall construction.
Already have a Prodigy on its way to me, so I'll be set with the controller once I get it installed.
No help to you but I'm looking for a hitch for my 97 F150. They are hard to find. Auto Zone and Advanced don't carry them. Oreilly's website says they have a Valley 82270 for $119.99. I'll drop by after work and see if they really have it. Got to move some furnature in a few weeks.
Good luck with yours.
I did get a recommendation from someone else saying Reese is what they usually sell but they are a good bit more than the Valley I was looking at. He also said he's heard good things about Curt hitches, so I think I'm going to go with a class IV Curt hitch for about $160.
What he didn't like about Valley was that the powder coating doesn't last very long (like less than a year) before it starts flaking off and rusting.
I had a OEM Ford factory, class 3 hitch delivered on my 99 Ranger, who's finish & hardware is holding up very well.
I also like the OEM's safety chain hook up arrangement on it much better than some others I've seen.
You didn't ask, but I'd also add, I use a "Cushioned Ball Mount" by "Convert-A-Ball", that really helps smooth out the tow. It helps round off the jerks, jars & bangs to the drive line, which I'm sure will appreciate it over time. It's rated for up to class 5 towing.
Also just went from bias ply Tow Master ST trailer tires, to ST GoodYear Marathon radial trailer tires, which has really helped smooth things out & quiet things down!!!!
SO, between the factory hitch, cushioned ball mount & radial trailer tires, I've manged to noticeably tweak & smooth out & quiet down my tow, on our twisty moutain roads.
well i would go for draw tite or reese. there is many hitches in the market that have come here from over seas and are not DOT approved. you are also paying for better quality steel on the drawtite.
