Im a big fan of a straight axle on a 4x4. Thats why it pains me to see everything becomming IFS. All the trucks and suvs these days are IFS, some even fully. Lifts are more expensive and the IFS can handle the bigger tires (the tie rods are about the size of my pinkie). But i started thinkin and ive never really offroaded in a car with IFS (except a couple TTBs but that doesnt count). Is IFS really that worthless offroad? Seems like they wont be able to articulate or flex for crap. But then i read an article on the new FJ and they bragged and bragged about how their IFS is better then a straight axle and how all four wheels will always be on the ground. BS? I dunno im just interested in hearing other peoples opinions on the subject. I think theres the technology to create a "soft" ride on a straight axle with would make the wheelin community happy and all the other cry babies who whine about how stiff trucks are.
the only place offroad IFS excels in is high speed dune running or baja racing type stuff. they soak up long falls from a tall jump muich better than a solid axle
