'96 is electronic via pulses fed from sensor on top or rear axle, toothed ring mounted on axle ring gear.
pulses feed to PSOM computer on instrument cluster which outputs to speedo, PCM for engine/tranny control and speed control amplifier for cruise control
No, not directly
shifting and TC lockup is commanded directly by the PCM with electrical signals to the shift & LU solenoids in the tranny
the PSOM does supply a speed related signal to the PCM that is used in the calculation of shift points and TC LU logic
OK. I've got several symptoms and I'm beginning to think they are all related. It may be a better idea to start over as a new thread. The problem is intermittent. Some time it runs just fine. But it getting where it happens more and more. When it acts up the speedometer goes crazy. It jumps 10 to 20 miles an hour back and forth. The van jerks like the tranny is doing something. Hard shifting, TC locking and unlocking or something. And now the van will just die. Come to a stop and as soon as you start to go it dies. Sometimes just putting it into gear will cause it to die.
I thought I had it going so I took my other van off of the road to rebuild the suspention and now it's acting up again. I should have the other one done by this weekend and I can start back on this problem.
