I have a 04 Eddie Bauer with 17000 miles (5.4L) the engine seems like it was missing at idle only. I know this sounds like a broken record but its driving me crazy.First I replaced the IAC with a new one from Ford that didn't seem to do anything, then while surfing the other posts I decided to remove my EGR and cleaned it that seemed to do a little but not alot. It seems that if the motor idles at 750 or more its fine ,but anything below that is rough. Do you think that all IAC's from ford are bad? In other words did I replace my IAC with another bad one . Any help is greatly appreciated THANKS
I did take it to the dealer and you will never guess what he said???? Yep he said first that he couldn't find anything and the when he did feel it he said and I quote" IT IS NORMAL" then I told him if its normal why did it not do it for the first 14000 miles of its life. So that is why I don't go to dealers anymore
I had a problem with my air ride compressor vibrating and the dealership told me it was normal, but when I told them I was going to make a complaint to L/M Headquarters, they quickly found the problem.
Seems like you have to threaten them to get any warranty work done right.
I tried that with our 02 explorer it had a transfer case problem that went back 4 times and still wasn't fixed so they sent a rep from detroit down to our dealer and I quote " I don't know what to tell you sir about your vehicle; however I am leaving for my vacation tommorrow and I don't have time for this" Now please don't get me wrong I AM the biggest Ford fan out here but they need to do somthing with their "factory trained" service people.I personally feel that if they would use their ears to diagnose a problem not a computer they would do much better. I know these trucks are very complex so computers are essencial but if a motor has a misfire at idle and you can feel it and see it then duh!!
my 03 missfired because i took it to a carwash and im assuming a plug or coil got wet,, so have you looked into the cop's?
I dont think it is a ignition misfire and besides the truck has never seen a drive thru car wash( dont trust them)But I honestly think that the iac sensor or computer is keeping it from idling high enough. I have noticed (after studing the truck carefully) that when the engine idles at 700rpm it idles rough, but when it idles at 750- 800where it should it purrrrrrrs like a kitten. Like I said earlyer I did replace the iac ,but I replaced it with a new one from ford ( probably the exact one that is on there already) My next thought is to buy a iac from NAPA or some other store that wont be a factory part
Three thumbs up for you my man Its funny when you get so bothered by something you fail to think of the obviousI will give it a try asap . Thanks for your thought; might try to adjust tps first . Usually the least expensive works best
Could be the TPS, throttle position sensor, many have tried replacing it with good results.
Cecil
Well I adjusted the tps and it worked great for a day then every thing went back to normal. I,ve seen a pattern in this whole mess, Every fix that I did worked perfect for one day then it seems the computer took what I fixed and put it back to "normal" It was a good try I really appreciate the help
I know it sounds really dumb but have you tryed replacing the cheapest and easiest thing, the PVC valve. You usually notice that it is sticky when at idle makes the car run rough....
