Wierd no start condition. Need help.

I have a 2000 E-350 with a 5.4 liter.

here is the problem I am having. Drove it out of the yard and it stalled. turned key and it wants to start but as soon as you let go of the key it quits. There is no dash lights with key in run position. If you turn back key slowly while in the crank position the van will stay running but as soon as it turn back to the run position it quits. Tried to replace ignition switch but did not make any difference.

any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

John

way to go

The way you explain the situation...ign is connected
with the rod that goes down the steering shaft(on top) to
the start run connection on the steering shaft......check to
see if the key has a definite 'click' in the run postion...do
this without starting. If this is where the engine will run
then check under the dash towards the bottom of the steer
shaft(on top) with brakes on and engine off and key in your
pocket. If that piece which is about 2.5 inches by 1/2 inch
can be moved - tighten down with screws at top(towards
driver and at bottom(towards engine)......?
