Engine surging fixed
The engine on my 1992 F150 had a surging problem that occurred after engine warmup and usually after about 20minutes of driving. I replaced the egr valve and it seemed to help but the main culpret turned out to be a plastic vacuum tube that goes to the emission control canister. I learned after the fact from this site how to run codes and there were a couple of egr codes present possibly caused by replacement of the egr valve. All I know is after clearing the codes and driving the vehicle and then once again running the codes the engine light no longer came on and the truck runs great. It even seems to have fixed the erratic idle that I had previously. I believe the majority of the problem was the vacuum leak but it also seemed to help clearing the codes. I am posting this because I know a lot of users have problems with engine rough idle and surging. Thanks to all for the suggestions!

seems vacume plays a big part on these engines. I had the same issue and found that the vac line going to the AC Vent door was leaking on my 93 F150
I fixed that and no more surging....
