I am in the process of buy a 87 E150 with 302 EFI, has 165k on it. The guy I am buying it from says that it Starts at the flip of the key, usually idols good, about midrange it may backfire and stall or sometimes act like it starving for fuel and stalls. Sometimes it will Pop, Bing, Bang, Boom and die. Other times if you lightly feather the accelerator, it will go a little farther. He has changed the Timing Chain, Water pump, two fuel pumps on it (a low pressure in tank, and a high pressure frame rail), also fuel filter and plugs. He has cut the Catalyic convertor off and still doing the same. He hasn't read any codes on it. Could this be a bad TPS,TFI iginiton module or stator pickup? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Brian
In this case screw on a pressure gauge & check the fuel pressure, sounds like it's starving for fuel
Your Haynes or Chiltons maual will tell you how to check fuel pressure
If thats OK, pull the codes.
Take a couple of minutes to do these simple tests & post back.
