What is true is that who does the tuning is the most important thing about the chip/tuner.
My Evolution tuner was designed with tunes that, according to Edge, would "work with any Powerstroke, 1994 through 2003". Oddly, the '94 through '97 are quite different, using single-shot injectors and NO intercooler. The '99 used a different turbo setup than later PSDs - yet all use the same tuner.
Jody Tipton (DP Tuner) won't even sell you a tuner or chip until you supply him with the PCM code from YOUR truck. Why? Apparently because some PCMs require different tuning than others, even if they are from the same year and model PSD.
So, being a 'one-tune-fits-all', how did the Evo work on my '00 PSD, 4x4, std cab, long bed? The 60hp tune felt pretty good. Strong, responsive. It also left black soot on the side of my truck. The 80hp tune FELT a lot stronger because the throttle was very, VERY sensitive off idle. But when pushed hard, 1) it wasn't a lot stronger than the 60hp mode, 2) it PUKED thick, black smoke the whole time the hammer was down, 3) EGT skyrocketed quickly and exceeded 1300 way, WAY too easily. The 100hp 'extreme' mode was even worse - no more power than the 80hp, faster rise EGT, more smoke.
The DP-Tuner chip? 1) the 40hp tow mode isn't as senstive, but seems to have more torque under load than the 80hp 'race' mode on the Evo, 2) EGT is lower with the 120hp mode than it was with the 80hp Evo (I have yet to exceed 1200 with it), 3) the 120hp mode has less throttle sensitivity and is much more controllable at low speed - BUT, 4) when pushed, the 120 hp mode simply flies (I NEVER expected a chip to add this much power), 5) smoke - none in 40hp, very little in 80hp, and a wispy haze with 120hp.
Oh, and I don't get the dense, black, sooty stripe of distinction on my rear fender with the chip.
Now, if you WANT a tuner, check with Jody Tipton - he sells tuners with HIS tunes. But, be prepared to supply your PCM code.
The lesson is, generic tunes are fine if you have a generic truck and want generic performance improvements. If you have a specific truck, a specific tune will work better than a generic tune. Ask anyone here that has traded in a generic tuner/chip for a better designed and tuned chip or tuner from Jody Tipton or Tony Wildman.

Well there it is. It all sounds good. Company has got to started somewhere. I would love to be able to custom tune my own parameters via a laptop. Wonder what kind of live datalogging it can perform. If it can deliver any kind of transmission tuning that is adjustable by the end user as it describes, it would almost be worth it just for that.
I for one would love to hear from somebody who has one. I will look at the site again. Kinda sketchy on the actual how to on the capabilities.
On edit: man that's got to be a new company. Who's gonna be the first? The site leaves a little to be desired. No picture of the device. Did a google on any reviews on the product and got nothing.

I believe it has a usb cable, an electrical box that I believe you program with 2 or three files, and a cable to hook up under the dash. I believe the one I'm looking at is like a programable superchips programer... if you understand what I'm saying...
