Well, hopefully it will be here the first of July (from what they say). I ordered a 2007 Supercab 4 door, 4.0, manual, 4x4, 3.73 limited slip, and the power package. This will be replacing the 98 I have now. It was either order a new one or rebuild the 98 like I have the Explorer. The wife told me I could have a new one....
No problem! Put in for it and I'll add you now. Also, let me know when you get here! We need to get more going in the chapter...
I hope te 07 comes the way I ordered it. I am selling the 98 before it gets here, so the X will be my daily driver for a few weeks. At 12 mpg in city for the X, I hope I don't have to use it as a DD for long...
I have an 04 xlt 4x4 supercab, 4.0 5-speed manual, and 4:10 gears. I get 18-19 city, and 21-22 highway, I feel that is decent mpg for a 4x4 with 4:10's, and over 200 hp. With your 3:73's, you should do as well, if not a little better. I can tell your excited to get a new truck, "well", I'm excited for you!! Good luck, did the dealer say if they changed anything on the 07? Just wondering!
So the way I understand it, if you want a manual with the 4.0, you gotta custom order it? I remember there being a thread on that a while back.
You might have to custom order it, or you might find it on the lot. If the dealer thinks it'll sell, he'll stock it.
What you're remembering is that the Ford build and price website won't let you build a regular cab, 4x2 with the 4.0. At all. Jeff Clark (1956markII) confirmed that Ford doesn't build those trucks anymore.
I am a little excited about a new toy. The 98 is needing a clutch pretty soon, so I had told my wife I was thinking about buying a 5.0 Explorer from the junkyard for a donor for the engine, trans, wiring, etc. She decided it would be great if I just bought a new truck...
From everything I have seen so far, nothing changed on the '07 with the exception that they went back to 3.73 as the standard gear over the 4.10. Other than that, nothing is supposed to change until '08.
Most of the local dealers have a few 5 speed 4x4's around here, but I know when I was in Atlanta if you wanted a 5 speed at all - 4x4 or 4x2, you had to order it. I think it mainly depends on the area you live in.
And they wonder why they can't make more money, even while they refuse to assemble the parts they have to make what people want.
*Edit: on re-reading my hasty post from earlier, it has dawned on me that I left a few words out. You can't buy a 4x2, 4.0, r/c 5-speed shortbed. I can't remember about the longbed.
I think there's a market for a shortbed, regularcab, 4 cylinder, 5-speed, 4x4 with 4:10 gears. The duratec makes decent power, and torque, plus good mpg, I'ld be interested in that combonation as a daily driver. I heard rumors that the next generation ranger will have a 4 cylinder diesel option, that would be awesome.
I've had three rangers with the rowboat stick and I really can't see the big deal about a manual tranny. With the five speed slushbox, milage is near what a standard makes and it's a hell of a lot more comfortable when you have a tender groin muscle from kicking doors in.
I'm addicted to it now. The control, the fun, the replacing of worn out clutches lol. And to me it just seems more durable, even though I know the M5OD is totally weak in terms of durability lol.
