Ya know, I'd like to know what on earth you guys do to your trucks. I have a 99 XLT, longbox, 4X2, 2.5, M5OD, 110,000 miles, daily driver, been all over Wisconsin, Illinois, and other than one clutch(seems pretty durable to me), set of tires, brakes, and maintenance, I don't seem to be having the problems you guys have, or is it just me. And NO, I don't baby it, but I don't jump on it every light either. It doesn't go offroad(OK, you got me there), but Chicago area stop and go has to count for something. I'll be driving this great machine for at least 2 more years, and then if the body is still good, I'll rebuild her ....This truck has been one of the most trouble free and most reliable vehicles I've ever owned(driving 30+ years)........
Sounds like some of my truck drb. I started with an 89 Ranger - 2.9 manual, 4x2. Put 268,000 on it and only replaced the clutch. Bought my 97 Explorer and have 175,000 on it - and that includes many, many modifications. I just finished rebuilding it from the ground up and only did that because I wanted to - not because I had to. The 98 Ranger I am selling and getting the 07 for has 125,000 on it without any problems. Largest reason for the new one is to gain 4x4 and the real SuperCab doors. I hope I get as good of service out of it as I have my others. I honestly believe the reason mine have lasted like they have is because of preventive maintenance and care.
I'd say the m50 is pretty durable, I beat mine like a big dog, and it doesn't even wimper. I've had 5 rangers, and only ones been an automatic. Manuals keep you alert, there not boreing, and there just plan fun. A truck just doesn't seem like a truck if you can't shift it. I beat rangers on road, offroad, anyplace you can beat them, and they have never let me down, I guess thats why I keep buying them. Dependability has never been a problem when it comes to rangers, I've allways had good luck, but I've allways had good luck with fords period. The only other vehicles that have been as good to me as ford, are jeeps, but there more of a toy, an oversized quadrunner!
