It has done this three time in a day in a half. when the fuel starts getting low, roughly 1/8th of a tank or so. (I know I am nlot suppose to let it get that low, but sometimes on long trips it happens). The truck starts to jerk and wants to die. It actually did today. It is not getting any fuel. yet when I fill up, it only takes 26 gallons and that is all the way up the filler neck. (29 gallon tank). once full, then it runs again. but there is still at least 4-5 gallons in the tank. I am also getting horrible fuel mileage. where I usually get 17 on the hiway, now I am getting 10 -101/2 mpg. any help would be great before I talk to the dealer. or should I even worry about it?
What year truck ? I know my 01 had a fuel inlet mod that covered up the bypass port on the pick up tube inside the tank. Sounds like thats the problem your having. Diesel Manor has a kit you can buy that will take care of that problem. You have to remove the sending unit. I don't know if the 04/05's have the same set up as my 01 did. I havn't had time to do the harpoon mod yet on my 05.
Thanks Max... I will take it in tomorrow and mention this. It isn't tripping any codes, so I hope they look a little deeper than just the diagnostic tool.
