Cancer Walks

Saturday i did a cancer walk with alot of people from my church..there were alot of people and i think i heard them say that they raised 13,000 that day

i had posted a while back about a lady named Sue from our church, though she had went to be with the Lord we walked for her that day

it was very hard for me to do the walk...seeing her kids..thier smile made it easier though..

so in my heart i wasnt just walkin for her..none of us were..we were all walking for everyone who has and will be affected by cancer and thier familys.

Lord i thank you for the wonderful opportunity to spend that time with those girls and all the other people, and i pray for all those people who this has affected and i pray that they will all turn to You Lord and praise Your Holy name and that they will be conforted by You Lord.

Amen

I continue to pray for all of you whos lives have been affected by this...

P.S. pray for my moms best friend..we just found out she has cancer around her eye

That can certainly be a daily prayer. Just think if our governments spent a fraction of what they do on military spending for cancer research instead, we would probably have a cure.

I did the cancer walks before I was diognosed (sp?) Now I can say I have been on the recieving end of 3 surgerys and 3 rounds of chemo. I am glad these fund raisers are here and fact that we can petition prayers. And they both work. I am example of what can be done.

The treatment wasn't easy but it didn't get me down either.

My wife walks as an 8 year survivor in two or three run/walks every year and donates several days per month working for a couple local organizations. She was named volunteer of the year last year by one of them.

Google "cancer walk".

Of the first twenty results, only 5 are for cancer in general and 15 are for breast cancer specifically. You have to get to result # 24 before prostate cancer is mentioned once. Then the same pattern applies for the enxt several pages about half-and-half cancer in general and breast cancer - you have to go to result 70 before prostate cancer is mentioned specifically again, and it's another page for the same walk mentioned the first time.

2 prostate cancer walks for ~40 breast cancer walks.

And yet, the American Cancer Society reports, for 2002:

http://www.cancure.org/statistics.htm

An estimated 205,000 new cases of Breast Cancer, with an estimated number of deaths at 40,000.

An estimated 189,000 new cases of Prostate Cancer, with 30,200 estimated deaths.

AND

http://www.prostatepointers.org/ww/funding.htm

Although the breast cancer death rate and that of prostate cancer are nearly equal, the research funding for breast cancer is about seven times that for prostate cancer. The result is that, whereas the death rate due to breast cancer is dropping, the death rate due to prostate cancer has risen for the past thirty years.

If the tables were turned, women would be screaming. But it's only sons, fathers, husbands, and brothers being left to die, so who cares.
