Transmission Problems
I'm new to the list and need some help. The truck is a 1993 Ranger with a V6 engine and a 5 speed transmission. I purchased the truck second hand and it has approx 252,000 Km on it. The previous owner indicated that it has a rebuilt transmission that was installed in 2003 and I'm not sure how many miles it has on it.
My Problem.
I was driving home on the highway at aproximately 130 KMH (70 MPH) when my the truck started making a noise. It sounds like something is flapping in the transmission. The noise only occurs in overdrive or 5th gear. Thre is no noise in first through 4th gears just in 5th gear. There is also no loss of power or any noise from the engine if it's idling.
Where does one start with the trouble shooting. Do I take it to a transmission specialist or general mechanic?
.
Change the fluid and see if anything is stuck on the magnet on the drain plug.
