The last couple times I've drove my 96, The Brake light has come on when I first started it. And has stayed on for anywhere from 1-5 min's till it goes off. I have set and released my e-brake and it donsen't change anything. Just seems to have a mind of its own. Anyone had this trouble??
yes my 95 does the same thing,it will do it for about a week and then wont do it for a while, dont know what it could be. i just did my brakes not even 500 miles ago so it must be some kind of sensor. ohh and my abs light is on all the time it never goes off. maybe that sets it off???

I know that on my '90 7.3 when that would happen I needed new front brakes, and the fluid level was low enough to turn the light on, after driving 5 to 10 minutes the fluid would warm up and expand enough to shut the light off. As the brakes got thinner the light would stay on longer.
My fluid level is as full as she gets and i have new front brakes and rotors. the back brakes are new and the drums were turned.
still get the brake light comming on. maybe the e-brake safty switch is going back and makes the brake light go on?

my '97 did that when my vac pump was going. about $100 at autozone, and make sure to buy/rent a pully-puller to get the pully off the old one. Hope this helps.

Ahhh.... now I remember sumthin about the light coming on when the pump is weak. I'll have to keep an eye on it. I know my vac pump is alot noiser than my 94. But its alos a bit different style also. I put a new pump on a 97 a year or so ago and it sounded the same as mine....(nosiey)??? Can ya'll hear your pump sucking air over the motor like I can on mine???
Thanks for all the replies!

Itfox, When I put the new pump on my '97, the sound made from the brake booster when i hit the brake was MUCH louder than the one that went dead. It would actually get annoying (another reason why my windows are allways down so i can enjoy that "cattless"/"muffler-gone-a-missin'") sound . Another thing you might want to replace is the check valve on the brake booster, i think it's like 5 bucks at NAPA. If I remember correctly, some of the guys here recomended that I chance that first to see if it fixes the Brake light issue. Also, take a peak at the little plastic manifold that all the vac lines run to, under the air cleaner i believe and make sure everything is looking good. I also think that there is a sensor on that plastic manifold that trips the Brake light if vac is getting low. Don't quote me on that but just another thing you might want to check out before you spend a fill-up on a vac pump (i know around here it's about $80 for me to fill up ). Good Luck!
