[QUOTE=Dave Sponaugle]If your 6.9 does not have bottom end torque, something is wrong.
I broke more than one U joint with my 6.9 bottom end torque.
I also pulled over 20,000 gross weight here in the WV mountains with my 6.9.[pulling that much weight, how did you stop the dang thing?/QUOTE]
Brakes and gearing down.
Since I am a retired over the road truck driver, I am very used to the extra stopping distance required when loaded heavy. I also take no shortcuts when working on the brake system or for that matter any of the rest of the truck, if anything is worn or questionable, replace it with new. Trailer brakes are just as important as the tow vehicle brakes are. They get the same attention that the truck brakes do.
For several years I had the stock vacuum brake booster and it was OK. Now I am running a hydraboost unit off a 97 Superduty (F450) since I have added a turbo to the mix.
my dad has an extra 89 7.3 none turbo. We also will have a 6.9 that need rebuilt we are puting in a 7.3 in our truck and are getting 2 motors in the deal. plus an automatic overdrive trans will 3000 miles on it. Any body interested? what kind of price could we sell the trans for?
I have tried to power brake my dads 6.9 in first gear and it died. My 300 will power brake in secound. The timing is a little advanced on my dads truck to get the top end power up. It has precombustion cylinder heads. Did they all have this type of head.
