i have a 65 f100 , dont know what going on but here is the problem.
maybe someone can anwser this i have a pink wire going from the ignition to the coil the wire is hot i tried using another does the same thing truck runs fine is the coil going or is it someting in the ignation.
Here's the story on the original factory set-up. It used points and had a special resistance wire going from the ignition switch to the coil +. This limits the current to the coil and through the points, making the coil run cooler and the points last longer.
I do not know what type of ignition system you have, but you said it's electronic. The late 70's early 80's Ford duraspark II electronic ignition also used a resistance wire or resistor from the ignition switch to the coil +. It did the same thing that it did for the points. The coil ran cooler and also the electronic box ran cooler and lasted longer.
If you have some sort of aftermarket ignition system, you will have to read the instructions from the manufacturer as to if they require a resistor in the line to the coil +. Some did, some didn't.
i went a head and bought a resistor and new coil, first installed the resistor with the blaster resistor started somking, disconnect everything. hook a new coil regular after market think this one will work he wire is not burning hot ( just warm) with no resistor. i guess the blaster must of blasted?
during this process my fuel & water gauge maxed out, some reason they are now not work ( fuel still maxed out , think it burned the temp up) hook another cluster up and the temp gauge started to max so i unpluged it all.
it must be drawing more volts, i do have the regulator hooked up when i hook it up they all turn off ? any idea what is going on now?
