what is a good way to cut tires into 4 pieces? like quartering them. I rented a dumpster to get rid of some of the stuff in my garage and around my house. they said they will take tires, but they have to be cut into 4 pieces. I have a hand saw that is for wood and a saws all with a metal cutting blade in it. will either one of these tools work?
The saws-all works, but you need to have something to stop the bouncing. When cutting they tend to vibrate which takes away from the saws-all cutting.
The side walls are easy the problem is the Treads and the beads. When cutting the treads cut horizontal not vertical. This reduces the bounce.
The beads are easy if there is no rim. If it is on a rim you need to cut the rim to get them off otherwise it will take forever.
If you use the Saws-all get a big pack of blades.
Another thing to try is a grinder with a cutoff blade. I havn't tried this so I do not know if it is easier.
I've tried to cut steel braided steam hoses with a hack saw and, while it can be done, it is a PITA. I can't imagine a sawzall on tires being much easier. Best bet, as mentioned already, a grinder with a cutoff wheel. I don't suppose you have a fire pit.
As long as you do not have a off road tire (since the bead is literally 1/4" of spring steel) a sawzall works fine. I use either a 6" bi-metal or construction blade.
