First of all I want to say sorry, because I am sure this has been asked many times. I did try doing a search and could not find anything close enough to my application to know if I was the correct information for me.
I have a 1975 1/2 ton 4x4, 390, 4spd truck.
I want to convert to front disc brakes. It currently is power drum. Does anyone sell a conversion kit for my application? What would I need to make my own kit?
Who has done this on their truck with the same application?
73-79 axles from a f150 or bronco will be a bolt in swap, but i think that you will need to to get them from a 77 or later vehicle. i think 77 was the 1st year front disc brakes were available. also 3/4 and 1 ton axles will be different because they had leaf spring suspensions.
You want a D44 from a '76-'79 F150 or a '78-'79 Bronco. They should be relatively easy to find. If you find a donor vehicle, that's even better because you can grab the MC/PB and all the related stuff. I would throw a rebuild kit at your "new" axle before putting in. This would save headaches down the road.
Shouldn't take more than a week end to put in once you have everything ready.
On Edit: Covert to the '78-up style inverted 'T' style steering linkage, better than the 'Y' style you have now.
