i have a 1975 f-250 camper special with a 460/c6 trans with a 4 bbl holly carb, when i bought the truck it came with the rebuild kit for the carb, i was told rebuilding the carb is very touchy, and i also dont know when its time to rebuild the carb. what problems will happen when a carb needs to be rebuilt?
in the instruction sheet, it says the model is a 4160, what cfm is that? and is that good for a 460 motor? its a 4 bbl carb but the 2 in front are huge and the 2 in back are small
the carb was made 1975 do you think i could get anything for it? it works good, why do you say its not good for heavy trucks wont it give me alot of power with a 460?
You will find with a Double pumper carb spreadbore or square bore, yours is a spread bore-two small holes & two large holes, you will go thru twice as much fuel than say a good square bore vacume secondry, as your 460ci has to work harder to pull the extra weight, go and buy a 670cfm Holley street or truck avenger carb and save yourself a heap in fuel bills , and you will still have tons of power. when Ford introduced the mighty 460ci motor they put 600cfm Holleys on them ! what does that tell you...Cheers- Jamie. P-S Big is not always best..
i think that the holly carb is stock with the 460 i have in there, but im not sure, i know that the model # in the carb tune up book, matched up with a douple pumper but, i dont know the exact cfm, is there a way of finding out if i have 600 cfm? and if i do should i still buy a avenger?
As far as i know Ford put 600cfm vacume secondry's squarebore carbs on the 460ci, but i could be wrong as i have seen the odd spreadbore manifold on a 460ci engine, maybe you have a 429ci manifold and carb as the 429ci and the 460ci manifolds are interchangeable, but im only guessing, with your spreadbore carb i think its a 650cfm double pumper, there should be numbers on the choke tower-look them up on the Holley wed site and they should say what CFM size it is.you only need to rebuild your carb when it plays up, a good simple clean for now is to go and buy 2 cans of carbi cleaner, remove carb from motor and spray all over , inside and out but leave carb in one peice-dont take apart, should look like new. if you are happy with your double pumper just keep it. Good luck. Jamie-AUSTRALIA

well when i bought the truck it came with a borg warner complete tune up kit for the carb gaskets, tubes, valves,etc.... so what do you mean when it "plays up", i dont think ill be taking any parts of my carb though because i dont have a clue what im doing and the dirctions dont really show me
Hello, i said only rebuild your carb when it plays up, e-g starts to leak around gaskets, a good simple clean is to remove carb from motor and spray at least 2 cans of carbi cleaner all over it- inside throats and over the carb body.... then it should look like new, Cheers. Jamie
Hello 460way, Plays up is a Australian slang word meaning- Broken, not working properly.
Im sure you can understand that. Another Aussie slang saying is. ( its had the Dick- that means- its not worth repairing throw it away ! ) Good Luck, Cheers. Jamie, Australia.
Hello 460way, my wife just pointed out to me - im sure you can understand that, i did not mean any harm in that wording, what i should of said was thats our understanting of the words- Cheers Jamie.
sure, i can understand that, i just thought maybe play up meant that its still works just not correctly, and i woundnt know if it wasnt working correctly because it is a new truck for me and i dont know squit about cars
ok heres a opinoin quistion, i have a 1975 f250 with a 460 c.i. with a 4bbl douple pumper carb, a c6 trans, a b&m shift kit, and 3.73 gears, it sounds awesome. but my truck is so heavy, i wont alot of speed out of my motor and i cant do it in my truck, so what vehicle could i put this set up in that is relatively cheap?
