banks turbo kits!

Hey guys what is the difference between the older banks turbo kit and the new sidewinder kit? I already got the 4inch exhaust on my truck so i wouldn't need the exhaust the sidewinder kit comes with. What are the pros and cons of both kits. What one peforms better? Anyone out there still running the older banks turbo kit? I just want to find more information on the older banks kit cause I know where i can get one and I would like to get more information on it before i buy it.
thanks,
jimmy

there is always an upside to buying new turbos, and new hardware. you know exactly what is going in your truck. you get warantees. you know everything is brand new. you get a certain piece of mind when you buy new parts. however, if successful on the old parts, more power to ya. me, i would rather buy new, especially when dealing with turbos.

call banks, and they will quote you a price on the system without the exhaust. mine was 150 bucks or so with the muffler delete option. call them and they will give you a quote, to your door. good people too.

the difference between the new ans old sidwinder kits is a wastegate.
i have a non wastegated sidewinder on my 88.
a friend has a newer wastgated sidewinder on his 89.
my 88 blows the 89 away because i produce more boost.

max boost is unknown. i only have a 15 lb gauge in it. i normally try to keep it under 13 lbs.
75 on the go pedal is 12-13 lbs. 75 cruise is 4-5 lbs. 75 mph is 2600rpm
top speed is around 85 mph, at 3400rpm. this is with the C6

I read in the new Banks system setup that it pulls more power because of the wastegate in the sidewinder. The boost guages only go to 15 psi on the new system as well. Is the new system as powerful as the old one?

I don't know which has more power but I talked to banks and they said the waste gated one is set at 10lbs boost from the factory because of the high compression of the non turbo 7.3s. I know you can increase it but it would be harder on the engine I would think.

What happens with the wastegate is the turbo can be more aggresive at making boost. This lets the turbo make more boost down low, but when you are wound tight at high RPM, the wastegate opens to limit boost.

A non wastegated turbo has to be engineered so it does not overboost at high RPM, which causes it to suffer at low RPM.
