New Vibration

Hi guys! I'm new here and I've got a problem. I own a '00 PSD 4x4 and I just got this vibration and a strange noise to go with it. It is there when I am stopped in drive or traveling at about 30 mph. If I put in park the vibe goes away, also if I hit the throttle while moving it goes away. I have tried reading through the older posts but I couldn't find anything that had the vibe at a stop. Hope you guys can help

Oh, and it also comes and goes. It happened after a night of back road driving, while hitting 4 or 5 rather large potholes. It all started the next morning.
I thought it would be something with steering because it sounds like a steering clunking, or brakes that are kinda letting go at the stop.

The best i can describe the noise is that it sounds like a really big Geiger Counter!

How about your exhaust system? Any loose components?

No, I'm pretty sure thats not it. I've checked 3 times now but I can't find anywhere it would hit. But I guess it doesn't hurt to look again, eh?

It could also be a transmission control switch or sensor or even a torque converter problem. They are tough to troubleshoot. My buddies had closely matching symptoms you describe, and drove him nuts for months. If all is quiet in park, but noisy when in gear, its worth a look.

Good luck to you,

Austin

Vinny, is it a vibration or a rattle? Does the truck shake or you can just hear it?

If the truck shakes, try changing your oil first. Then try fuel additives and possibly the HPX line.

There are people on here far more qualified to answer your question. I'll try the lower echelon answers first.

Hey Vinny, have you checked U joints?

Just a thought... I do have many dealers and distributors through-out US and Canada that are very experienced with these diesels, if you are interested in me referring you to a local BD dealer provide me with your zip code and I can see who I have near you.

Hope this Helps

truck doesn't shake, just feel vibe in feet on driver and pass side.

After driving it for a week or so, it seems to have stopped unless i'm turning left. This makes the same noise and vibe combo of earlier post, but not when stopped anymore. It is still intermittent.

On my 2000 F350 I had a similar problem and after a little digging found the rear U joint was bad.

Check those U joints, the can cause some strange intermittent issue that you wouldn't think would be related.
