I guess it will depend on what size of cooler you are installing. I put a small cooler in-line with my tranny lines coming in/out at the radiator and mounted it on the rad support to the right of the ac cooler. Holds on fine with two bolts, hasn't moved, gets full air flow and can be easily checked for leaking hoses etc.

Can you give a little more info about the size of your cooler etc. and maybe someone else can give you a better idea of where to locate it.

Cheers!

Mike

mikeL, thanks for the post. I was just getting ready to do a search. I myself am interested in getting one with a built-in fan. My ac condenser is also in the way. I have to look up the dimensions on the new trans cooler and maybe I can do what mrl123 did.

Yeah, a lot of companies make them but just as an example, check this one out:

It also allows more leeway when it comes to finding a mounting spot.

The thing about it is.....you may not require one with a built-in fan. It really depends on how you use your truck.

I think I need one because with stop and go traffic, my tranny temp can spike up pretty high here in s.florida. Your requirements may be different. I remember driving about an hour and a half home from an out-of-town job one day, and came to a dead stop because of an accident. I was doing about 75mph and it was about 92 deg out. For about 45 min. I was just inching along. My tranny temp spiked up to almost 220 and there was nothing I could do about it. I've got a new dual core modine radiator, new cap, thermostat, antifreeze, the whole nine. But I was not getting the proper airflow. Maybe I should change the fan clutch. But 220 is dangerously waaaaay too high. My 94 f-150 300 E4OD didn't come with a tranny cooler. So as it is, it's always at 195 degs along with the water temp. My a/c is almost always on because it's too damn hot down here and I sure don't want anything blocking airflow to my ac cooler. So it would seem that for me, a tranny cooler with a built-in fan would make the most sense.

If you don't have such problems, you may be able to get away with one that doesn't have a built-in fan. Putting it in the very front would mean a 100% efficiency. Between ac cooler and radiator, maybe 75%, and between fan and radiator, maybe 60% efficiency. Doing so, of course, affects ac cooler and radiator efficiency somewhat. I think tranny cooler with a built-in fan, though more expensive, is always 100% efficient and solves all these problems.

MRL123 also has a good idea. But it boils down to how your truck is used. For normal everyday driving, buying a smaller one to go side-by-side with the ac cooler may suffice and gets max airflow. Also, it's the cheaper way to go.
