Talking cotten filter oil problems??

just curious,i have a 2001 edge 4x4 kingcab 4.0 auto with a volant coldair induction system on it.Recently the truck seems to have a slight studder when i barely step on the gas kinda like a dirty injector or something. i cleaned the filter and prefilter and reoiled it and the problem is still there. the throttle body was kinda oily inside so i put the stock intake system back on for the time being.has anybody out there had problems with k and n filter oil or any companies oil fouling up their engine???im also running a gibson catback exhaust and a superchips programmer and up until a few weeks ago the truck ran awesome now its just ok.......help!!!!!!!!!!!
thanx in advance
steve

I have a stock intake, but I believe I've seen reports of the K&N style filters contaminating the MAF sensor. Might not hurt to try cleaning that.

It's easy to over-oil those cotton filters which can make everything downstream of them dirty. Clean the MAF, I'll bet it's filthy.

Yeah, they pretty much nailed it, MAF gets dirty, sends false signals to the PCM, which causes the engine to run rough. That outta fix it.

GENTLY is the key, that filament is very delicate. You can use throttle body cleaner as well if you want, whatever works for you.

You need to clean it with a non-residual solvent, safe for electrical parts. Many folks use "throttle body" spray cleaner.

I wouldn't touch the wire grid with anything like a q-tip, ect, as it could be damaged, or contaminated by fuzz or deposits trom the cleaning tool.

Just remove it & gently spray to degreae it & not leave any deposits.

You might also look back towards the air box & tidy things up there & inside the air tube to the throttle body, if it's dirty or oiley inside, before you re-install the MAF.

Let us know how it goes.

Also I would replace the k&n cone filter with one from AEM, check out thier web site, AEMPOWER.COM. They have a highflow cone filter that you do not have to oil, and it filters better than k&n. Thier filters come in different sizes, and are replacements for thier intakes, but people are using them on other intakes, like k&n, airaid, and such. I was waiting for AEM to make an intake for my 04 4.0 that has the intergrated maf, but I'm getting tired of waiting, so I'll probobly go with the k&n intake, and AEM filter. Look at thier web site, you'll see what I mean.

FYI...CRC has come out with Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner !! Picked it up at the auto parts store, works great...My sensor was black, sprayed it on, now its shiny clean, an has my gas mileage shot up, as well as overall performance(2.5,5-speed) and no, I have not had ANY trouble with my K+N filter(60,000 miles and counting). Running stock replacement filter, with a modified stock airbox.
