My clutch is slipping in third when my '69 F100(360 CI) gets warmed up. Should I look at adjusting the clutch or should I go ahead and replace the clutch. What is a good clutch to use for replacement? How hard of a task will this be? I have never tackled a clutch, but I am more than willing to try it.
I would put in a diaphram type clutch. They take less effort to push the pedal down and engage smoother. Have your flywheel resurfaced by a shop. The hardest part is getting the transmission out and back in. I made my own transmission jack. I copied a sizzors jack, but made it 4 times bigger and put castors on it. It will hold a engine block. Get some longer tranny to bellhousing bolts and cut the heads off. Install finger tight. They help to guide the tranny back in. Also, be sure to use the alignment tool to center the clutch as you tighten the pressurs plate.
There are lots of clutches but there is only ONE clutch that you should put back into your truck----acenterforce clutch and double friction pressure plate and throwout bearing----you won't regret spending the extra bucks for ahiquality product , fd!!!!! :-X11
I agree that Centerforce clutches are good quality. I bought a different brand from a shop that only sells and installs clutches. About $120 and they surface the flywheel for free.
