it is a way to fool the map sensor in to not defueling the engine (over boost). it shunts voltage over a set value to ground. i had one on my truck for a little while (came with one of my chips) but i still seamed to get a defuel every so often so i went with a BRV (boost relief valve) and that works better. i would reccomend a BRV
